Employment
Thinking about employing a worker?
If your church or organisation is thinking about employing a worker to aid and assist your work with young people, children and families it would be great to chat to you more about the possibilities. You can contact the YES team at yes@diochi.org.uk
We can offer support and guidance in the process you are thinking about beginning to help you make the right choices, to guide you to the right decision and hopefully the right person in the position that you want.
Over the past year we have been surveying churches across the diocese who have employed a worker. The aim is to learn from each process, information which maybe helpful for other churches beginning to engage with the possibility of employment. If you would like to read some of the reults of this survey, please email steve.tennant@diochi.org.uk.
It is important that we have the opportunity to speak to you as early in the process to aid and support your church or organisation during the journey ahead. In order to help Churches and PCC's engage in the process of employing a worker we currently offer two training sessions for PCC's that would be very beneficial.
PCC Training Sessions
To employ, or not to employ - that is the question?
This is a 45 minute session with notes for all PCC members. It helps PCC's engage with good and bad reasons to employ someone within the local church. It looks at the values and priorties behind the employment decision that needs to be made. It also gives the PCC and local church time reflect honestly about the challenge and situation it is seeking to employ into. This session also includes a brief summary of the legal responsibility of a PCC as the employer of any potential worker. This can be run durning a PCC meeting with an opportunity for questions and discussion.
Stages to employment - Sure foundations
This training is an evening ideally suited to a PCC, or a sub-group thereof who are tasked with the serious process of looking at the employment of a worker. The stages are
- Stage 1 is based upon research into the need of a worker.
- Stage 2 about the planning the development of the role in connection with the needs.
- Stage 3 is about managment of the process from funding job descriptions, advertising, interviews and once the appointment has been made, the support and management roles.
This session is an evening in which the stages can be highlighted and discussed. It may then lead to an ongoing consultative process where we can journey alongside you in the appointment process.
If you would be interetsed in talking to us more about the training we offer, please contact us on yes@diochi.org.uk
