YES - You, Equipped to Serve

YES Training and Equipping

The following sessisons are available, on request, from the YES Department . . . just drop an email to yes@diochi.org.uk with the session you want - you might want to run a short "series" for your youth leaders, in which case - pick your top three!

"Learning from and connecting with youth culture".  This session explores some of the things going on in wider culture (especially as it impacts young people) and asks questions about what the church can learn from young people and culture that informs the way the church can connect effectively with the prevailing culture that young people are growing up in.

Presentation: PowerPoint with PDF of notes and bibliography for wider reading.

Availability: This is bespoke training - so as and when your church requests it.

Aimed at: All clergy, PCCs, salaried youth workers, volunteers.

"What young people need".  This is based on a presentation I gave when I was interviewed for the job of YES Adviser!  The teaching explores 4 key areas that the church needs to invest in if it is to be effective in meeting the needs of young people - and drawing them in to the journey of faith.

"Worship".  An overview of what worship is and how and why we do it.  The how of worship needs to serve the why - and part of the session can be given over to creative experimentation with different forms.

Length: 30 minutes + questions + creative exploration with different forms.

Presentation: PowerPoint with PDF of notes and bibliography for wider reading.

Availability: This is bespoke training - so as and when your church requests it.  If you want to explore different forms of worship, 3 months notice is required to make sure I can arrange what you want to explore.

"Growing up and getting on".  This is a session that explores how we understand discipleship and what we need to offer to ensure that young people are growing in their faith.

"Free to Serve".  This presentation uses the S.H.A.P.E. model and, if requested, prayer ministry can be offered for young people and leaders alike.  The session explores what the gifts of the Spirit are - and is aimed at helping young people discover / examine what gifts they might have.  It can also be used with larger volunteers teams to help reflect on the different gifts within a team - and how those gifts can come to the fore in your minstry with young people.

Length: 1 hour + questions + small group work as required.

Presentation: PowerPoint with PDF of notes and bibliography for wider reading.

Availability: This is bespoke training - so as and when your church requests it.

Aimed at: All salaried youth workers, volunteers, young people (14+)

"Raising Leaders".  This session looks at how we discover, develop and then release leaders into areas of ministry - the principles are based on my own experience of doing this so are "tried and tested" and apply to many areas of ministry in the church - not only children's and youth ministry.

"Developing Spirituality".  This is an introduction to the topic.  Exploring how you get beyond games and activities to keep young people busy and entertained - towards an intentional model of spiritual formation (and transformation).  This does not need to restricted to young people who are already Christians, everyone can and should be invited to explore their spirituality.
